Description Summary:
Responsible for: (1) writing articles for internal audiences, (2) designing monthly internal e-newsletter, (3) helping to maintain other internal communication tools, (4) supporting internal events, programs and campaigns, (5) coordinating special events and community programs, and (6) supporting community initiatives.

Internal Communications
• Writes articles for internal audiences.
• Designs Hospital’s monthly e-newsletter.
• Helps maintain other internal communication tools, including intranet site and electronic billboards.
• Supports internal events, programs and campaigns.
• Responds to employee questions/comments related to Hospital issues.
• Other duties as assigned.

Community Relations
• Coordinates special events and community programs, including the WVU Health Expo and the WVU Children’s Hospital Kids Fair.
• Coordinates community wellness activities, including health screenings.
• Provides support for the Hospital’s United Way campaign and coordinates other United Way activities.
• Solicits sponsors and prizes from area businesses for community events.
• Coordinates the Hospital’s Partner in Education program.
• Writes press releases related to community events.
• Orders logo giveaways and responds to community/employee requests for giveaways.
• Represents the Hospital on community committees and at community events.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Works closely with graphic and web designers.
• Takes photographs and works closely with professional photographers.
• Processes invoice payments, and analyzes monthly expense and credit card reports.
• Requests catering/room set-up for events and works out other logistics.
• Creates and updates mailing lists/list serves.
• Maintains Hospital trophy case.
• Orders supplies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communications or related field, is required.
• Minimum of three years experience in journalism, medical writing, science writing, public relations or communications required.
• Minimum of three years experience in event planning required.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Time management and organizational skills.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft FrontPage and Photoshop, as well as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Publisher, Excel and PowerPoint.
